KABC-TV Friday Close Resync
It's been quite a long time since I last did a resync, but this one is for a purpose.
This is being uploaded as an attempt to convince Southern California's News Leader to use this cut from Series 1 of the Eyewitness News package for their Friday credits from here on out.
Video of the close was provided to me by my buddy, Scott Allen Brown.

A Tribute to Sam Rubin (1960-2024)

Apologies for the constant re-uploads due to some miscues and setbacks. This is my tribute to longtime KTLA entertainment reporter Sam Rubin. Sam tragically left us on May 10, 2024, at the age of 64. The cause was a heart attack. We also lost two other journalists prior to Sam's death for the same reasons, one was Robb Hanrahan, who worked in our area and two other markets. He survived his but died from complications related to his heart attack in 2022. The other was Denise Descenzo of Hartford, Connecticut's WFSB, who passed in 2019. Her heart attack, like Sam's, was sudden.

Interesting how the male singer is singing it in the same key as Florence Warner in the original. Quite often, they will change the keys for male and female singers, even within the same campaign. That was the case with the “Hello News” campaign, which also involved both Frank Gari and Florence Warner.

Surprised nobody noted the station's announcer in the sales presentation video.. The one and only Ron Rolland. He was the voice of WBBM CBS 2 for most of the '80s. He went on to be the voice of WLS ABC 7 from 1992 until 2007. Fun fact: Ron Rolland was the last "station talent announcer" in Chicago (and possibly one of the last in the country for a local TV station). All the way to the end at ABC 7, he was contracted and paid as actual talent at the station. The decision to eliminate him was actually from ABC corporate level as they didn't want their station paying for an in-house talent announcer anymore and they wanted WLS to go with a regular contracted or per-diem voiceover (they went with Roger Rose as his replacement at the time). Ron Rolland passed away September of last year.

While the special was great, and I particularly loved the first segment where they talked about just how much technical innovation it took to get highlights when the show first started, I was a disappointed both that this "heavier" version of Jack Trombey's Horizontal Hold didn't make an appearance (they used the original version), as well as no mention whatsoever of "Wireframe Guy" as seen above. This 3D animation was actually revolutionary for its time and was an innovation unto itself. I'm a TV production geek, so I enjoy all the production stuff. I felt like the show focused more on the personalities than the production. It is what it is, and given the bombastic personalities the show had, I'm not surprised. It almost felt like the show was CBS' way of reconnecting with Brent Musberger, especially with the Super Bowl in Vegas where Musberger is enjoying semi-retirement and coordinating VSIN now. I think it was their chance to let Musberger tell stories on the (virtual) set and reminisce about the people. It was enjoyable enough for me to let it live on my DVR in perpetuity, no doubt. Just not quite everything I was hoping for. Four stars out of five.

Yes it was. I also agree with Scott Allen Brown. Some of the TVNT admins need to step down, and Weeters is no different. I can only imagine how the forum's co-founder, Dylan Wilbur, is reacting to this. I honestly wish he, and/or Matt Yancosek (jestbiteme) could take back control of TVNT, but obviously they've moved on to other endeavors. So that's never going to happen.

@@stevieboy247 I'm sorry that you had to deal with such nonsense. I was a member of TVNT going back to when it was a MSN newsgroup site in the mid-2000s, and I always thought that it was cool that I came across people who shared the same interests in the broadcast business, although I'm not in the business myself. Those first several years were pretty fun, until the site was inundated with trollish, insecure, spastic know-it-alls, including idiots like RolyPoly and that weirdo Nathan Orbal (or whatever handle he goes by). The current moderators aren't much better, and I can see why some people don't like Weeters, although I never had any direct interaction with him/her/it. I canceled my membership sometime around 2019, but I would look in and lurk around to see the latest happenings. A lot of these folks (moderators and so-called moderators) come across as very territorial and insecure. Anywho, I'm sorry that I had to vent a bit, but wherever life takes you going forward, I certainly wish you the best.

I think you made a good call my friend. I was a member of TVNT in the mid-2000's, but my relationship with them started and ended on bad terms after I got banned almost a dozen times because of a useless obsession I had with old news copies from a TV station that was caused by my mental illness, which was completely my fault. Thankfully, through professional help, I managed to grow up and move on, I mean that's what you have to do, but I'm absolutely shocked by what transpired over at TVNT and to say that I'm really disappointed in the forum staff as well as the folks responsible for this mess is an understatement. I think a majority of the forum admins, moderators, and other staffers need to step down and bring in some folks that can help restore their reputation, but if the site shuts down because of all this, it will be sad, but it won't surprise me.
